Cllr Bamberg & Cllr Kennedy to stand down

Councillor John Bamberg and Councillor John Kennedy have announced their intention to stand down from Taplow Parish Council in May.

Cllr John Bamberg has had an interest in politics all his life and has contributed much to civic life in Taplow and surrounding area. He was a founding director of the Beacon Housing Association; a Tax Commissioner; a consultant for the Prince’s Youth Business Trust.  John was elected to the TPC in 2003 when he became Chairman of Finance.

Cllr Bamberg said “I have enjoyed serving the community in a variety of ways over the last 27 years. I have had particular satisfaction from my role as Chairman of Finance for the Taplow Parish Council for the last 14 years. However, the passage of time, together with the fact that I am moving away from the village, convince me that now is the right time to give way to someone younger and almost certainly more in tune with, and more sympathetic to, current thinking than I.”

Councillor John Kennedy first stepped into public office in 1976, taking a seat on Taplow Parish Council. He swiftly became District Councillor in 1979 and was Chairman of South Bucks District Council from 1999- 2002. After a short break from politics he rejoined the Parish Council in 2006. Ill health and advancing years mean he has decided to reprioritise. He will be nearly 87 when he steps down at the AGM, having given more than most to the community we hope he’ll enjoy the well earned rest.

The robust yet charming nature of both these elder statesmen will leave a gap on the council. They will be much missed by all who have worked with them.

Those interested in serving on the Parish Council should approach The Clerk, Hilda Holder, at taplowpc@gmail.com.
