Newsletter technical details
The Newsletter of the Hitcham and Taplow Preservation Society is published twice per year, with spring and autumn editions. It is an A4 magazine-format production with either 12 or 16 pages.Fonts
- URW Palladio for article text
- Nimbus Sans for titles
- Utopia Bold for the cover page
Production process
- Articles and pictures are submitted by e-mail to the editor, or (preferably) directly into the HTPS TWiki-based Wiki.
- The editor chooses articles, writes the Editorial etc on the Wiki.
- Initial copy-editing is done on the Wiki.
- Text and pictures are taken from the Wiki into local files for typesetting
- An initial layout is made using Scribus - usually with more pages than the final product so that the length of articles can be measured. The result of this is a PDF which is placed on the Wiki for comment by the editorial team.
- Final copy-editing is done either on the Wiki or in Scribus to make the articles fit the available space.
- The layout is tidied up, pictures are placed and sized in Scribus. Another PDF is made for final proof-reading.
- Corrections are applied, widows and orphans dealt with, and lines with unsightly spacing are adjusted in Scribus.
- A final PDF is produced and sent to the printer for a paper proof to be produced: this is used mainly to check colour reproduction.
- The final print run is produced on an HP Indigo machine.
- Any last-minute changes are copied back to the Wiki to form the online version of the Newsletter.
