Taplow Heritage Day

Several hundred people visited the Village Centre on July 4th to view the Taplow Heritage Day Exhibition. Throughout the day there were many long-stay and repeat visitors browsing through the wealth of photographs with descriptive text comprising the eight displays and admiring the pictures exhibited by the 12 local artists.

Pupils of all age groups had attended the series of Heritage talks by local residents arranged by St Nicolas’ School during the previous week. The barrage of questions from the audiences spoke for the level of appreciation.

With the enthusiastic permission of Duncan and Jo Estley, the Bomb Shelter in the garden of Priory Cottage was the venue for several World War Two-based talks. At the Exhibition there were queues to join the guided tours of the Shelter, which was built to protect the staff of Fairey Aviation engaged on top secret work at The Priory – the large house which was demolished to make way for Wellbank.

The Drinks and Nibbles event at The Village Centre in the evening was a sell-out with all attending offering lavish praise for the Exhibition. Proceeds after expenses amounted to £260, which was donated to the Alexander Divine Cancer Trust

The exhibits are now in storage and copies of many of the photographs are held on computers. To give a flavour of Taplow Heritage Day, extracts from the exhibits are published in this edition of the Newsletter with an account of the St Nicolas' School talks.

Congratulations to the organisers, Marc Boden and Miv Wayland Smith and their team.
