Andrew Pearce writes : I am a descendant of George Pearce who married Sarah Pearce at Taplow in 1791. I have much information about his descendants but cannot find anything about where he came from. I would be delighted and grateful if you could shed any light on the matter.
St Nicolas Churchyard
A Friend of Merton Priory writes : Can anyone tell me why there is a dolphin on one of the graves at St Nicolas? The dolphin as an heraldic symbol can sometimes signify royalty.
The Bell and Crown Inn
John Owens writes : I wonder whether you can help me with some information about the Bell and Crown Inn which stood on the Bath Road, Taplow in the mid-19th century. I understand it was demolished and has now been replaced by the Dumb Bell.
Silchester House
Sylvia Topp writes : I am writing a biograhy of Eileen Shaughnessy who later became Georger Orwell's wife. According to her records at Oxford University, where she graduated in 1927, she began teaching at Silchester House in Taplow right after graduation. Thank you for any help you can give.
