I was a Boarder at Taplow Grammar in 1943--shall be pleased to hear from anyone with interest in the school WillN29 Jan 2015 00:37:10 JohnSimmonds:
Hello everyone, My Dad went to a boarding grammar school in Taplow which sounds very much like the one being discussed here. I don't know a lot about it but he said one of the boys was a keen train spotter & the school was very near to the GWR main line-possibly with the playing fields actually bordering the line? I also recall him talking about the tuck shop but that's about it. His name was Derek Simmonds from Hornsey North London & he was born in 1924, I don't know when he started at this school for sure but it was probably around 1930-32, he left in 1942. I wonder if any former pupils on here remember him? John.01 Mar 2016 15:32:06 BillBoden:

I am researching the VIGNE family tree, and found a entry in the 1881 census for Taplow Grammar School, one of the pupils was Lancelot VIGNE, 11 y.o. The Principal was Edward Syke, it lists his wife and 22 other boys aged between 10 & 15. Reference: RG11/1462 page 3001 Mar 2016 15:39:51 BillBoden:

My father, Roderick MacBean? Maclean and his brother William Remington Maclean attended Taplow Grammar School during the years 1912/3 - 1921. They had come from Canada to live with an Aunt after their mother died. Another brother only 2 at the time remained in Canada with his father. They boarded at the school as far as I know all those years.10 Aug 2016 10:49:32 FrehaN:
I was sent to Taplow Grammar School two days after I arrived in England from Czechoslovakia and was at the school from July 1939 to July 1942. I knew little english and together with some other refugee boys, were tought the language. I have written up my memories of Taplow and now, at the age of 89 still remember my stay there - it wasn't bad at all... I attach a sketch of the school as I remember it.
